How Changing Your Core Beliefs Can Transform Your Life: A Step-by-Step Guide to Aligning with Your True Self

The strongest force of the human personality is to stay consistent with how we define ourselves. This means that to change what we are getting in life, we need to change who we believe ourselves to be or who we believe ourselves not to be.

Our beliefs therefore are the biggest predictor of who we become. They shape who we are and what we believe we can achieve. It is important however to remember that these beliefs are not set in stone and can be changed with conscious effort. In this blog, we will explore five powerful ways to change core beliefs and create a life that aligns with who you genuinely want to be.

1. Identify the limiting belief:

The first step in changing a core belief is to identify it. Often, these beliefs are subconscious, and we are not even aware of them. Take a closer look at the recurring patterns in your life and ask yourself what belief could be holding you back. For example, if you are struggling to achieve success in your career, you might have a belief that you are not talented enough. Once you’ve identified the belief, examine it objectively and ask yourself if it’s true or if it’s just a story you’ve been telling yourself. Some examples to help you identify limiting beliefs could include:

  • I am not worthy.
  • I don’t have time.
  • I am not good enough.
  • I can’t because…
  • What if I fail again?
  • It’s too hard.
  • I will be judged. What will everyone think if….
  • I don’t think it’s possible for me…
  • I am too scared to….

2. Create a new story:

Once you have identified the limiting belief, it’s time to create a new story. Replace the negative self-talk with positive affirmations that support the vision of who you want to be. Visualize yourself achieving your goals and focus on the positive outcomes of your actions. For example, if your limiting belief is that you’re not talented enough to succeed in your career, create a new story that affirms your talents and strengths. Say to yourself, “I am talented and organised, and I will succeed at anything I set my mind to.”

3. Surround yourself with positive influences:

Changing core beliefs can be challenging, but it becomes easier when you have a supportive environment. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and encourage you to pursue your dreams. Join support groups, network with like-minded individuals, and seek out mentoring from people who have achieved success in areas that you’re interested in. When you surround yourself with positive influences, you will find it easier to maintain a positive mindset and leave behind limiting beliefs.

4. Reprogram your subconscious mind:

Choose a technique that allows you to reprogram your subconscious mind. Techniques such as visualization, affirmations, emotional freedom technique, and hypnotherapy can help to implant new beliefs into your subconscious mind, allowing you to embody a new way of being.

5. Take action:

The last step in changing core beliefs is to take action. It’s not enough to simply think positively; you have to take action towards your goals. Identify the actions you need to take to achieve your vision and take them consistently. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem, and use them as fuel for the next steps. When you take action towards your goals and achieve small successes along the way, you’ll reinforce the new story and begin to create a new reality for yourself.

Changing your beliefs is essential if you want to create a life that is aligned with who you choose to be – your MEGA SELF life. By challenging your beliefs, practising self-compassion, surrounding yourself with positive influences and reprogramming your subconscious mind, you can transform your life and achieve your dreams. Remember that changing beliefs takes time and persistence, but with the right mindset and tools, it is possible. If you see me heading out for a surf in the depth of winter remember I am only doing this because I chose to program a new belief that aligned my life with who I wanted to be.
